Green Acres Student Service Learning (SSL) Program is a 6-week commitment. The program provides an opportunity for young teens to build character skills to be tomorrow’s leaders. The program is designed to develop leadership skills which can be used in school or in the workforce. The SSL experience provides in-depth training in skill development, child development, group dynamics, conflict resolution and more. The SSL counselor's day comprises of being in an assigned unit in the morning and training in the afternoon by the Student Service Learning Coordinator.

The SSL program is for individuals that have completed 8th or 9th grade. At the end of the camp session, each SSL counselor will receive a MCPS Student Service form signed with over 225 service hours.

To become an SSL counselor, one needs to complete the online  application, submit references, be interviewed by the Camp Director, participate in orientation, and volunteer Monday through Friday from 8:15 to 3:30 from June 20 to July 28
