Swim Program

On our campus at Green Acres, we are so fortunate to have a beautiful outdoor pool facility for our campers to enjoy each summer. The pool has a shallow entrance that gradually gets deeper as swimmers move around the z-shaped pool.

Down at the pool, all of our aquatics team members are trained Lifeguards with current certifications. When campers are in the pool, they are accompanied by swim instructors and unit counselors who are all supervised by the on-duty lifeguard.

Next to the pool are two locker room facilities that campers can use to change before and after swim. Each unit is also supplied with portable changing tents that can also be used for campers to change as needed.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: We monitor the weather reports daily for Code Red alerts and other weather-related guidance from Montgomery County. Green Acres Camp may adjust the program to shift some activities indoors. Outside activity may be limited depending on the alert, but not necessarily eliminated, as campers can be outside as long as their activity is monitored and they stay hydrated. Regular announcements are made to remind campers and staff to hydrate. Extra water is made available in the classrooms, playgrounds, and gym. Under guidance from the National Weather Service, when thunder is heard the outdoor pool is immediately cleared for the next 30 minutes. Every time that thunder is heard, the 30 minute timer restarts.

All Junior Campers have a 25-minute swim block each day (as long as the weather allows). During this block, campers will take part in group swim instruction that allows them to become more comfortable in the pool and practice basic water skills. Campers learn and develop new skills by playing games, such as Over/Under Limbo, Four Corners, Red Rover, and Sharks and Minnows.

Whenever the weather allows, Senior Campers have the option each day to come to the pool for a 45-minute free-swim during their Workshop time.

During free-swim, there is a lifeguard on duty as well as members of our Senior Camp staff in the pool with campers.

2027 Lessons open in March

Our private lesson program is designed to enhance and support the daily pool time. These thirty-minute sessions are offered before and after camp from 8:30-9:00AM, 9:00-9:30AM, 3:00-3:30 PM and 3:30-4:00PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday each week. Many campers opt for private lessons once per week, but some campers sign up for more to work on specific skills and stroke mechanics.

Private lessons are $60 per session, and parents will be billed after the lesson has taken place. If the lesson is cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled less, families will be charged a 50% cancellation fee.
